Saturday, September 22, saw the TASIS Rugby 7s Team depart to LAZ for the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz Rugby Invitational 2018. In a mixed invitational comprising rugby games of 7s, 10s, and 15s, TASIS had its first 7s games of the season against Zurich International School (ZIS), Munich International School (MIS) and hosts Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz (ZIS). Despite losing all three games, the day gave the team a reality check, particularly after losing focus in the second part of the first game, which resulted in a narrow defeat to the hosts. The remaining two games proved to be more challenging, including a heavy defeat to a clinical ZIS in the last game of the day. Herkus Marcinkevicius ’19 showed his strength both in defense and attack and scored several tries during the day. Other tries also came from Pablo Rivero Dominguez ’20 and debutant Giovanni Volpi ’20. The day also featured first games for TASIS for Oscar Schiller ’22, Alessandro Carlesimo ’22, and Enzo Furletti Diniz ’20. The team saw a new leader emerge in the form of the youngest player Alessandro Carlesimo ’22, whose experience playing rugby at his previous school was also invaluable in shaping the team. There is much to do back at TASIS during practice in preparation for the next tournament at Le Rosey in November.
