Soccer - Girls (V) NISSA

Event Type: Tournament

Date: November 10, 2018

Event Recap:

The Varsity Girls Soccer team hosted the 2018 NISSA Championships on Saturday, November 10. TASIS opened the tournament with a convincing 2-0 win over rival American School of Milan (ASM). Heather Hines '19 scored 16 minutes into the match, and in the second half, junior captain Daisy Bachofen '20 found the back of the net off an assist from Hines. The defense was anchored by goalkeeper Katie Kelly '19, who recorded the shutout.

In the second match, the Tigers would face the team that denied them a fifth title in a row last year, St. Louis Academy. Once again, it was Hines opening the scoring, as she delivered twice in the first five minutes of the match. Penelope Baroni '21 stood out as well, scoring two goals and recording an assist as the Tigers went on to win 8-3 and take the NISSA Championship title. Senior captain Eve Ryan '19 notched a goal and an assist while Autumn Bachofen '21, Lucia Ugolotti '20, and Olivia Haunso '19 scored the other goals as the Tigers dominated play with their passing. Laura Silviera '19 combined with Kelly in goal to hold a talented SLS team to only three scores. Teresa Maneschi '19 and Samantha Walker '19 played stellar defense in their last home game at TASIS.

Coach Matt Walker’s Tigers will look to build on this breakout performance when they travel to Lisbon, Portugal, on Thursday, November 15, to compete in the European Schools Conference (ESC) Championships.

"I'm proud of the way the girls played this weekend," said Coach Walker, who has led the varsity team since 2008. "It was disappointing to lose NISSA last year when we were shut out by St. Louis Academy 3-0. The 8-3 victory over the same squad helped secure the title for a record sixth time. We have a lot of momentum heading into the ESC Championships and expect to do well against a strong field of teams coming from all over Europe."
