The Varsity Girls Soccer team traveled to Milan for the NISSA Championships on Saturday. It was the final tournament of the 2017 season for the Tigers, and they began their day with a tough 1-0 win over the host team, American School of Milan. It was Penelope Baroni '21 who sealed the victory with three minutes left to go in the game to give TASIS an all-important 3 points to start the tournament.
In the second game, TASIS faced off against the heavily favored squad from St. Louis Academy (SLA), which had scored 29 goals in the first two games of the tournament and was ready to take down the four-time defending champion TASIS Tigers. After a 1-0 loss earlier this season to SLA, TASIS still had not figured out how to score against the young upstart team and lost the game 3-0.
In the third game, TASIS faced off against the International School of Milan. Senior captain Emma Dressler scored two goals and had an assist in the penultimate game of her TASIS career. Daisy Bachofen '20, Laura Silveira '19, and Baroni also scored goals.
The Tigers took on British School of Milan in the season's final game. Airi Barnes '20 started the scoring with a goal off an assist from Dressler in the 11th minute. Three minutes later, it was Baroni scoring an unassisted goal for her third goal of the tournament. In the second half, the Tigers sent off their three seniors in style as Ginevra Ugolotti '18 and Zoe Ghilardi '18 scored goals while Dressler recorded three assists. Aracely Leija Chaires '19 scored two goals to close out the scoring for TASIS in the 2017 season.
