TASIS hosted the 2018 ESC Cross Country Championships over two days of competition. On Friday afternoon, teams competed on a very challenging 3K course consisting of wooded trails with some single track, hills, and bridge crossings. On Saturday morning, the teams competed over 6K on a flat out-and-back trail running along the river in Agno. The weather for both races was hot and sunny.
Both the TASIS Tigers' girls and boys teams emerged as the 2018 ESC Cross Country Team Champions! The girls team was again led by Raffaella Alencar Barros '19. In the 3K competition, Rafa was the runner-up, but on Saturday morning in the 6K race she was victorious. winning by almost two minutes! For her racing accomplishments, Rafa earned the girls MVP award for the championship.
Other TASIS scorers for the girls team on Friday in the 3K competition were Katie Kelly '19 in 5th place, Zoe Wang '20 in 6th place, Lily Angelone '19 in 7th place. Maria Jose Cortina '19 and Sude Ademogullari '20 in 9th and 10th place were displacers for the TASIS team. On Saturday morning in the 6K competition, TASIS swept all the individual medals with a 1-2-3 finish. Finishing behind Rafa were Wang in 2nd place and Kelly in 3rd place. Cortina ran a strong race as TASIS's final scorer, placing 5th overall. The TASIS displacers for Saturday were Angelone and Ademogullare in 6th and 10th place, respectively.
The boys team ran extremely well both days to soundly defeat International School Geneva for the ESC CC Championship trophy. Leading the boys in both competitions was Denis Breus '20. In Friday's 3K race, Denis tied for 2nd overall with teammate Enzo Allanson '21. On Saturday in the 6K competition, Denis again medaled, finishing in 3rd place overall while Enzo placed 4th. Pablo Rivero '21 again competed extremely well over the longer distances and was 4th overall on Friday and 5th on Saturday. The final boys' scorer on both days was Ivan Linnikov '22, who was moved up from the Middle School team to compete with the Varsity. Ivan finished 7th overall on both Friday and Saturday. Rounding out the top six for TASIS were Mislav Ilijas '20 and Adrian Esmoris '21. Mislav finished 11th on Friday and 17th on Saturday. Adrian finished 12th on Friday and 15th on Saturday.
Earning ESC CC All-Star awards were Rafa, Zoe, Katie, Denis, Enzo, and Pablo.
