TASIS traveled to Leysin for their final tournament of the season. In a smaller tournament than usual, the TASIS tennis team was afforded lots of opportunities for matches, the majority of which TASIS was able to win.
On Saturday, the girls doubles duo of Arina Kolesnikova '18 and Sonja Artemieva '19 simply outclassed the field, dropping just one game in four sets on their way to a second straight first-place finish at this event. On the boys side, Can Ferhatoglu '20 and Ryan Meng '20 represented themselves rather well, remaining undefeated in pool play. In the semifinal, they drew the tough task of ISL 1, where they fell in a match that was tighter than its score of 4-8. While ISL 1 went on to win the final, the TASIS team recovered for a fine third-place match, winning a tight match against the top team from KLAS in a tiebreaker.
Sunday's mixed doubles action featured eight teams in two pools of four. TASIS 2 (Sergio Vinas '20 and Joy Mack '21), despite some inexperience, simply got better as the day went along. Though they ended in sixth place, both players hit a number of fine shots and competed well. The TASIS 1 team (Artemieva and Ferhatoglu) went undefeated in pool play, cruising to a top seed in the semifinals, where they dismantled the top team from ISL, before running away with the final to finish in first place.
Congratulations to all the players on a fine tournament and a fine season. We look forward to bringing back nearly all of the team for another season next year.
