Ludovico Roveda '21: One gold and one silver
After an overnight in Engelberg, the Middle School Downhill Skiing team got up early to inspect the course. Visibility was poor up in the clouds, and this made for tough conditions. The five TASIS racers were keen to get going in the parallel slalom.
Matteo Fortunato '24 competed in the D category and was able to finish second overall after his first two runs, taking him into the semifinals. Once there he took the lead in both races to advance to the finals, where once again he led from the start and never looked back. His determination was noted by coaches from other schools.
Ludovico Roveda '21 had a similar story, finishing second after his first two races. Just like Fortunato, he went through his semifinals and finals without looking back, giving TASIS two gold medals out of four boys’ races.
The following day, the weather had cleared up and the team was keen to find success again. Fortunato and Roveda continued their streak with first-place finishes in the Kombi race (mix of Giant Slalom and Parallel Slalom). In the final run, Fortunato won by three seconds and was the overall winner for the D category boys, gaining another gold medal. Roveda had a short fall on his last run but still managed to place second overall and earn a silver medal.
Both racers won overall best skiers for their categories and took home a pair of Völkl skis as their prizes.
