The second tournament for the TASIS Varsity Badminton team took them to Zurich to play against powerhouse Inter Community School Zurich (ICSZ). On the heels of their first meeting with ICSZ before the Winter Holiday, our Tigers were hoping for some redemption and rematches. In the girls' singles tournament, co-captains Maria Veronica Ramos '19 and Margarita Ukleina '19 both proved to be unstoppable and won all of their matches. Unfortunately, they ended up playing each other in the semifinals, with Ramos just edging out Ukleina in the third and deciding game by two points. Ramos would go on and control her ICSZ opponent in the finals to take the championship. In the third-place match, Ukleina had a hard time finding her rhythm and was unable to emerge with the victory. Other noticeable players included newcomers Hajira Qureshi '20 and Anna Sautkina '22 and returner Yuka Tanaka '21, who showed their skills and strength as the tournament progressed. They played with determination and grit.

In the boys' singles tournament, the Tigers' number one and two seeds (Matt Meng '21 and Minjoo Set '19) ended up playing each other in the quarterfinals, with Seo outplaying Meng for the first time in competition. Seo went on to struggle in the semifinals, losing both games before moving on to the third-place match. Unfortunately, fatigue caught the best of him and he was overpowered, having to settle for fourth place. Meanwhile Meng fought his way back in the consolation rounds to take fifth. Other notable performances included those of newbies Mikael Soh '22and Ivan Linnkov '22, both of whom fought off some great players and showed a lot of promise. They will be the ones to watch in the coming tournaments and years.

The team's next tournament will be its first championship tournament, as TASIS will once again host this year's SGIS Badminton Doubles Championship in the Palestra (on Saturday, January 26). The Tigers will be preparing for this first of many championships. Wish them all luck! Go Tigers.
