Novel Coronavirus Outbreak
As I’m sure most of you are aware, Chinese authorities identified a cluster of novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV infections in Wuhan City, China, in late December. We are tracking this situation closely and have consulted with Healix, our risk management partner, which is currently advising an increased level of caution when traveling to or from any part of China. The Chinese government initially advised against traveling to and from the Wuhan region before taking the further step of placing the city under lockdown on Thursday.
This is a developing situation, so we strongly recommend that any students or families planning to travel to China for the upcoming New Year celebrations seek the latest travel advice before doing so. Please refer to this Rapid Risk Assessment from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control for more information.
Winter Art Exhibition Opens Today
We welcome you to join us at the Winter Art Exhibition, which opens in the Palmer Center today at 16:00 and will also be open all day Saturday and Sunday.
The Winter Art Exhibition is primarily a photographic exhibition with participation from some IB Visual Arts students. It is both a showcase of work completed in photography classes and a first opportunity for advanced students to curate an exhibition of their own work. The feedback students receive from the exhibition not only helps them to refine their future work but also allows them to celebrate their accomplishments with the school community. We hope to see you there!

TPA Volunteers Needed For International Week!
The TPA is calling all parents to prepare traditional homemade dishes that share and celebrate their child’s heritage! Volunteers are also needed to serve during the Hadsall lunch period and Focolare snack time. This is a great opportunity to get involved with International Week, a wonderful TASIS tradition for our students that will be held from February 10–14 this year! See the posters below for more details, and please contact your room parent and/or TPA ES Coordinator to sign up.
Register for International Showcase by February 4
This year’s ES International Showcase will be held on the morning of Friday, February 14, in the Palmer Center. Students who wish to participate may perform a song, instrumental solo, dance, poem, or short skit that represents their country. They may perform on their own or with friends, but we ask that if the students are from different countries, they find a way to connect the two countries in some creative way.
If you have not already done so, please help your child submit this Google Form by Tuesday, February 4, if he or she would like to perform this year. (Note: If multiple students plan to perform together, please submit only one form per performance and list all names and countries involved.) Any links, mp3s, and videos that will be used in the performance must be included in the submission. The specific time of the performance will be communicated once registrations are complete.
The maximum performance time is two minutes. Traditional costumes from the country of origin are encouraged for performers but not required. Performers should come to school that day in their performance costume and bring their TASIS uniforms to change into. Please note that TASIS is not able to cover the cost for any instructors or provide space required for rehearsal, and no live accompaniment will be provided.
Please contact Mr. Frazier-Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
