This is a reminder that if you need to write an email to a teacher, please check to make sure you are sending the email to the teacher’s correct TASIS address. The standard format for a TASIS email account is firstname.lastname@example.org, and you can always refer to the Faculty and Staff directory if you’re unsure.
Assemblies and Advisor Meetings
The assembly on Wednesday, October 10, was led by TASIS Risk & Safety Manager Mr. Paul Diviani and was dedicated to safety and security on campus.
During the advisor block on Thursday, October 10, grade 6 had its first of three Academic Travel meetings, grade 7 advisor groups discussed “How to be courteous and show empathy,” and grade 8 participated in a Community Building Activity.
A Note About PE Classes
Dear Students & Parents,
Until Academic Travel, Middle School Physical Education (PE) classes will be outside for the practical part of each lesson. This means that we will likely be outside even if it is raining. (We will NOT be outside if there is lightning or hail.) If there is rain in the forecast, we ask that students please come prepared with extra underwear, socks, and a rain jacket.
We have a hairdryer and towels in each changing room. If the conditions are wet, students will be given extra time to dry off properly and change before they need to head to their next class.

Student Council Elections and Structure: 2019–2020
Student Council is open to all students in grades 6–8. The group is responsible for creating positive connections between students and faculty along with raising the profile of the Middle School at TASIS. They discuss issues and find solutions while also organizing events and assemblies, including Family Weekend, 5th-Grade Shadow Day, and International Week. Students have the opportunity to make changes in the Middle School and serve as the voice of their peers. They work together on developing such skills as leadership and commitment, teamwork and collaboration, communication and IT, and listening and public speaking.
The elections for President and Vice President of Student Council were held during an assembly on September 25. The candidates gave speeches, and all Middle School students voted. Congratulations to all those who gave a speech: Edoardo Vasino, Pedro Frascogna, Alexander Bagrin, and Adam Al Askari. It takes courage and discipline to do so in front of peers and teachers.
The results of the votes were really close, but Edoardo Vasino (President) and Adam Al Askari (Vice President) got a slightly higher percentage.
During our first Student Council meeting, it was agreed that all members of the Council would put their efforts together and use each other's skills to make the most of the Student Council. The Student Council 2019–2020 wants to work as a team, and therefore the following structure was agreed to by all members of the Student Council:
- First Semester: Pedro Frascogna will take the role of President, and Adam Al Askari will serve as Vice President. They will be assisted by Artur Loika as Secretary.
- Second Semester: Edoardo Vasino will take over the role of President, and Alexander Bagrin will serve as Vice President. They will be assisted by Max Lim as Secretary.
The full 2019–2020 Student Council is as follows:
- Adam Al Askari, Alexander Bagrin, Pedro Frascogna, Vladislav Kozlov, Max Lim, Artur Loika, Edoardo Milani, Anthony Nikoloff, and Edoardo Vasino. Congratulations to them all!
Student Council wishes a successful and productive year to all MS students!

MS Boarding Life: An Overnight Adventure to Capanna Basodino
TASIS Middle School boarders spent the night at Capanna Basodino, located in the mountains outside Cevio, Switzerland. The students were able to unplug from their regular days and connect to the natural world with hikes while learning about the glacial surroundings. They hiked to the foot of the Basodino Glacier, where the students could stand where the glacier was 100 years ago, several kilometers away from its current location.

Join us as we kick off the winter holiday season with the theatrical production of Charles Dickens’s world-famous A Christmas Carol. In the tale, miserly, mean-spirited Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three spirits who take him backwards, forwards, and sideways in time to try to teach him the values of compassion and empathy. The production stays faithful to Dickens’s story, filling the stage with colorful characters, music and dance, ghosts and spirits, and an author whose love of life and humanity provokes us to seek out the best in ourselves.
Save the Date: Yoga Marathon on November 23
The second annual TASIS Yoga Marathon will take place on Saturday, November 23, from 9:00–16:30. This Serving Southern Africa fundraiser will be structured similarly to last January’s very successful event, which raised CHF 3000 for underprivileged children in Zambia. More information will be shared soon.
