TASIS Alumna Laura Wasser '86You’ve probably heard that Brangelina are no longer, but did you know that there’s a TASIS connection to this off-screen drama? Laura Wasser ’86 is representing Angelina Jolie in the high-profile divorce case and has recently become a celebrity in her own right. In fact, Laura has been featured in the Ticino media, including pieces on the Teleticino Facebook page, in the Ticino News, and in the Corriere del Ticino.

Laura, who gave TASIS permission to pass along a few yearbook photos to the local press, spent a year abroad in Lugano and has been a practicing lawyer since 1994. She has represented celebrity clients such as Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum, Ryan Reynolds, Britney Spears, and Maria Shriver. She is also the author of It Doesn’t Have to Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself.

“I have very fond memories of my time at TASIS,” she wrote to us in September. “It was an awesome and life-defining experience.”

Linda Buchanan Jacob ’66
fell in love with poetry while at TASIS during her sophomore and senior years. After Linda’s untimely death in September 2014, her family (including her sister, Nancy Buchanan McLoughlin ’64) established the Linda Buchanan Jacob ’66 Memorial Fund to entice and inspire TASIS students to share her passion for poetry.

The Fund provides support for a biennial poet-in-residence program, bringing talented poets to campus to engage with students and encourage their creativity and appreciation. On Friday, September 23, TASIS welcomed acclaimed poet Aimee Nezhukumatathil, who has published three award-winning books of poetry and serves as Professor of English at the State University of New York-Fredonia. She visited classes and gave a special evening reading in the Palmer Center.

See more images from Aimee’s trip to campus, and watch a video of her visit to Dr. Chris Love’s World Literature class, in which she discovered that one her poems had been translated by students into nine languages.

TASIS remains one of 2001 graduate Jack Savoretti's biggest fans, and we’re delighted that he’s released a new album, Sleep No More, which is available to stream on Apple Music. To celebrate his album launch, he’s been featured on BBC Radio 2 and Live with the Evening Standard and is currently gracing countless billboards around the UK. His European tour began on October 25 and runs through February 2017. You can learn a bit more about Jack’s style thanks to the November 2016 issue of GQ in the UK.

Menswear designer Emily Adams Bode ’08 launched her eponymous clothing line on July 10. Emily, a graduate of Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College, uses vintage fabrics like quilts, handwoven textiles, and dish towels to create unique pieces. Her clothing is carefully considered, including details such as adjustable waistlines and box cuts that flatter most body types. Her work has caught the eye of Vogue and the New York Times; see more of her collection on Instagram.

Recent Reunions

“The Gold Rush”—Class of ’83 reunion at Sheep Ranch, CA

Robert Cutter ’83 graciously offered his family's ranch (1.5 hours outside Sacramento) to host a reunion September 22–25. The Sheep Ranch, a hotel built in the mid 1800s, was a haunt of miners during the Gold Rush. The weekend was great fun with plenty of time spent hanging out together, plus activities including a wine tasting trip. As Jon Grant ’83 wrote, “We did a little more than drink and eat. The hike through Calaveras Big Trees State Park....Epic!”

Class of 1966 and Friends—50th Anniversary Reunion

Twenty alumni plus friends and family got together in New Orleans over the weekend of October 14–16 to celebrate 50 years since they were on campus. Everyone looked great, and it’s unbelievable that so many years have passed! The weekend started out with a fantastic buffet on Friday evening generously hosted by Bill Hess ’66 and his wife Susan at their home. The next day proceeded with ad hoc outings on Saturday, taking advantage of the many things NOLA has to offer, and a group dinner in the evening. The reunion wound up with a brunch on Sunday, and the unanimous decision to get together again soon!

Congratulations and thanks to the committee—especially Chuck Kitsman ’67 and Debby Webster ’66—who worked hard on tracing classmates and setting up a memorable weekend.
