September 2019
We are thrilled to announce that the TASIS family will be extending to the Iberian peninsula, with TASIS Portugal scheduled to open as an Elementary School in the fall of 2020! (See Master Architect David Mayernik's vision come to life in the 3-D rendering above.)
TASIS held a special Founder's Day Assembly on the afternoon of September 12 to commemorate the incredible life of M. Crist Fleming, who overcame many obstacles to found the School in 1956 and nurture it to greatness. ![]() The TASIS Advantage In a podcast recorded in February 2019, IB Coordinator and UK College Counselor Howard Stickley, Director of Institutional Advancement Bill Eichner, and Khan-Page Master Teacher recipient Mark Aeschliman discussed, among many other topics, how TASIS has built up an increasingly strong reputation with universities around the world in recent years—with the impressive adaptability, maturity, and academic abilities of former students paving the way for today's applicants.
It has become clear that college admissions officers hold the School's mission and internationalism in particularly high regard. With a student body comprising nearly 60 nationalities, an extensive Academic Travel Program, a pioneering Global Service Program, and a mission to instill the values of personal responsibility, civility, compassion, justice, and truth, TASIS produces well-balanced students who are cultured, intrepid, and socially conscious.
This built-in advantage, combined with a rigorous academic program that allows students to pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma or take a wide range of Advanced Placement courses, is the bedrock from which TASIS students pursue their post-secondary goals.

TASIS held a special assembly on the morning of September 20 that featured a keynote presentation from Dr. William Sawyer—a senior computational scientist at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre—and lessons in Elementary, Middle, and High School classes throughout the day were directly connected to environmental issues. The RSI news program Il Quotidiano stopped by to chronicle the action.
TASIS Foundation Board member Dr. Michael D. Aeschliman's first book has been re-released with a substantial new introduction by the award-winning English science writer Dr. James LeFanu. Learn about the book and Dr. Aeschliman's distinguished 50-year career in education.
