International Week 2022 in 10 Images

With 60 nations represented in the study body, TASIS had much to celebrate during this year’s International Week, which was held February 14–18. See photos and video content from an inspiring week on campus.

The youngest TASIS students (grades Pre-Kindergarten through 1) marched in a Parade of Flags and had a dance party at Al Focolare on the morning of Tuesday, February 15. Watch the parade and see more photos.

Eight teams played their hearts out in the High School World Cup, which was beautifully organized by the Athletic Department. Italia, Italian Stallions, Losver Galarg A.S, and Karangwa emerged from the pack after two intense days of pool play and competed in the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. Losver, which was representing the WISER (Kenya) Global Service Program group, defeated Italian Stallions 2–0 in the finals to claim this year’s cup. Italia’s Matias Riis ’22 took home the Golden Boot with seven goals. See more photos from World Cup 2022.

Following the soccer finals, a group of teachers and coaches took on members of the Varsity Boys and Girls Volleyball teams in a spirited three-set match. After the faculty opened with a 25–21 victory, the students came roaring back to win 25–16 and force a third game. The students took an early lead in the decisive game, but the crafty veterans turned it on late and ultimately prevailed 25–23. See more photos from the match.

Twenty-nine Elementary School students representing 15 nations shared their linguistic talents and impressive abilities in singing, piano-playing, acting, and storytelling in the Palmer Center on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Watch the full showcase and see photos of the performers.

Middle School Service Learning groups organized a number of fun and thought-provoking events throughout the week, including a “Throw and Win” fundraiser on Monday, an International Games event and bake sale on Tuesday, and a social justice activity on Thursday. All students and teachers also had the opportunity to contribute clips to an excellent video that was shown during a pre-recorded Cultural Assembly on Wednesday. High School students prepared a wide variety of delicious dishes from their native countries and shared them with their peers and teachers at the International Food Fair, a lively gathering held in the Winter Garden on the Kay Hamblin Terrace on Thursday evening. Each day brought a special dress code on campus—traditional costumes, traditional dress of a friend’s country, national jerseys, flag colors, and TASIS colors—and themed lunches and dinners in the dining hall, where students and faculty members had a chance to sample Mexican, Chinese, American, Swiss, Spanish, Indian, Italian, British, Turkish, and Greek cuisine.

The generous and thoughtful members of the TASIS Parent Association (TPA) worked tirelessly throughout the week to enhance the student experience by adding beautiful decorations to campus, obtaining more than 50 different flag tattoos for students to wear, organizing a Valentine’s Day gift delivery service (as the holiday fell on the Monday of International Week), and spearheading a number of events on campus.

Three such events were the High School Cultural Food Tasting, Middle School International Treats, and Elementary School International Treats, all of which were held in the cozy Winter Garden space. Countless TASIS parents contributed by preparing delicious dishes and baked goods from their home countries, and they had no problem unloading their inventory quickly!
