Seven TASIS girls advanced to the final eight of the NISSA Singles Tournament, overwhelming their competition en route to an all-TASIS finals and team championship trophy on February 1 in the Palestra.
Susy Zhou '24, Joy Wang '25, and Rebecca Zhao '23 all won their way to the semifinals, with Susy and Joy advancing to face off for the individual NISSA crown. The teammates battled it out on the center court with Susy ultimately winning the gold medal.
The boys team placed two individuals in the top three to secure the NISSA Singles runners-up trophy.
Miceno Martins Rossi '24 and Kaan Kartal '23 advanced to the semifinals but had to face each other for the opportunity to play for the individual title. Miceno got the better of Kaan in the third set to advance, but Kaan won his match for third place to secure the bronze medal.
In the finals, Miceno faced off against the top player from the American School of Milan (ASM) in a back-and-forth intense battle for the gold medal. Miceno won the first set, but his opponent narrowly won the second to force a third-set tiebreaker to eleven points. Tied 10 points to 10 points, the game was extended to 12 points, with the player from ASM outlasting Miceno for the hard-fought win.
Up next for the Varsity Badminton team is the SGIS Singles Championship in Lausanne on February 4.
