Recap submitted by Coach James Magagna
For the third tournament of the season, TASIS played hosts to three Italian schools who came to Ticino on a beautiful Saturday morning for the round-robin NISSA tournament. After a slow start to the first match, in which ASM went ahead 1-0 on an early goal, Romolo Cerra '23 floated a perfect long-distance shot just over the fingertips of the goalkeeper to tie the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw. In the second match, against St. Stephen's School of Rome, Zayeem Rahman '22 scored on a perfect strike from outside the box to put TASIS up 1-0; after SSS equalized, Tommaso Lo Monaco scored to regain the lead. Finally, Brian Veldman '23 and Leonardo Manzotti '23 both scored their first goals of the season in the game against ISM, adding a brace apiece to the final tally, while Matias Riis '22 notched his second hat trick of the season. Ultimately the tournament winner was decided by goal differential, and it was ASM who took first place while TASIS finished as runners-up for the second consecutive tournament. The team has their sights set on the final tournament of the year—the European Sports Conference—with the goal of taking the first-place trophy to cap one of the strongest seasons in recent memory for the Tigers.
