From International Week celebrations, Academic Travel trips, and outdoor adventures to time in the classroom, on the court, and around the Harkness table, we take a photo-driven look at the past month at TASIS.
High School boarding students had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities over the weekend of February 1. Students could enjoy a sushi dinner in Ponte Tresa, S’mores at the fire pit on campus, a day trip to Lucerne, a yoga session in the Dance Studio, a group run around Lake Muzzano, a Snowsports Club outing, a coffeehouse study session in Casa Fleming, and more.

Elementary School Art Teacher Caroline Rossi’s first-grade students created primary and secondary color palettes before painting papier-mâché balls during class on February 5. See more photos.

After warming up with guided rhythmic work, Angela Dusing’s seventh-grade music class split into small groups to work with marimbas and glockenspiels. See more photos.
After a period of demolition, the installation of a crane above campus on February 7 indicated the beginning of the construction stage in the next phase of the TASIS Global Village Building Campaign.
On February 7, student representatives from all three divisions enjoyed a special lunch in Casa Fleming with members of the TASIS Board of Directors, who were on campus for their winter meetings.

The Varsity Badminton team swept all four categories (boys and girls, singles and doubles) at the NISSA Championships on February 8 in the TASIS Palestra. See more photos.
The Middle School Robotics team concluded its competitive season with an impressive showing at a FIRST LEGO League Challenge Tournament in Bellinzona on February 8. High School students in Elizabeth Rodostianos’s Chemistry class used Bunsen burners to oxidize magnesium during a lab experiment in the state-of-the-art Campo Science Center on February 11. See more photos.
A team of journalists from Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI) visited campus on February 11 to interview Director of Institutional Advancement Bill Eichner about TASIS for a news piece about international schools in Lugano. (Keep an eye out for the story on the RSI website.)
The Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated the American School of Milan in the Palestra on February 11 in a friendly game the Tigers led from moments after the opening tipoff until the final buzzer. See more photos.
Nine Middle School students were recognized with Magnificent 7 awards during the division’s Fall Virtue Award Ceremony on February 12. The students received the awards for exemplifying the timeless values TASIS stands for: Respect, Integrity, Responsibility, Compassion, Humility, Service, and Vision.
Many High School students and faculty chaperones spent the long weekend of February 13–16 in the Swiss Alps on Academic Travel trips to Laax and Engelberg to ski, snowboard, and snowshoe. See more photos.

To open International Week on February 17, selected students from all three divisions proudly marched around the Palestra with the flags of the 68 nations currently represented in the TASIS student body. See more photos and learn more.
Later in the International Week Opening Ceremony, one student in each grade was presented a Torch Award. In the spirit of International Week, the prestigious award is presented to students who embody cross-cultural understanding and make a significant effort to reach out to students from other countries and cultures. The annual High School World Cup Soccer Tournament kicked off on February 17 with the first of two spirited days of pool play in the Palestra. See more photos.
Milo Zanecchia '08, an outdoor lifestyle filmmaker and photographer who also spoke at TASIS as part of the 2018–2019 TASIS Speaker Series, addressed all 9th- and 10th-grade Service Learning students in the Palmer Cultural Center on the morning of February 19. Mr. Zanecchia discussed his experiences working with the German NGO SeaWatch in Lampedusa, where he was part of an airborne crew that coordinates and documents the rescue of refugees on one of the deadliest migration routes in the world.
The 9th-grade students are currently learning about the refugee crisis in their Service Learning classes, and Mr. Zanecchia's presentation helped shine a more personal light on those who are unable to live in their home countries due to war, famine, or political turmoil.
This year's highly competitive World Cup concluded in the Palestra on February 19 with a thrilling penalty shootout in the championship match. Congratulations to this year’s champions! See more photos of the playoffs.

Bragging rights belong to the TASIS Faculty for the second year in a row after a team of teachers and administrators defeated a team of student athletes in the annual International Week Faculty vs Students Volleyball Match. See more photos.
High School students prepared a wide variety of delicious dishes from their native countries and shared them with their friends and teachers at the International Food Fair on February 20. See more photos.
To celebrate TASIS’s internationalism, members of the incredible TASIS Parents Association (TPA) baked treats from around the world to share with Elementary School and Middle School students on February 21.
High School students concluded International Week on February 21 with an elegant Winter Ball organized by the TASIS Student Council and TPA. Experience the evening with 360-degree videos and a gallery of photos.
More than a dozen High School students pursuing the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award participated in a practice Adventurous Journey on February 21–23 in Avegno. The intrepid group navigated and hiked in Valle Maggia, planned and cooked their meals, and built a fire and slept in a remote rifugio. See more photos.
High School students in Carolyn Rosenberger and Jessica Cohen’s IB English Literature classes combined forces to discuss Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred in Casa Fleming on February 24.
David and Jordan Smith, founders of Climate Advocates Voces Unidas, delivered a fascinating presentation to seniors in the Palmer Cultural Center and visited a number of classes over the course of a three-day visit in late February that represented the third chapter of the 2024–2025 TASIS Speaker Series. Throughout the month of February, Helen Lill, leader of the tenth-grade Rare Diseases Service Learning group, organized many events on campus to educate students about rare diseases. Students from all three divisions attended informative assemblies and participated in the Reps for Rare Dance Challenge, and the awareness campaign will conclude with a fundraising community concert in the Palmer Cultural Center on the evening of February 28.
