The Wit and Wisdom of Mary Crist Fleming

To celebrate Mrs. Fleming's centenary, TASIS published a collection of quotations from Mrs. Fleming's speeches, yearbook messages, private notes, and conversations. Edited by Lyle Rigg, former headmaster of TASIS Switzerland (1982–84, 2007–2009, and 2015–2017, and TASIS England (1984–1998 & 2009–2010), this memorial book is full of charming, witty, pithy life lessons from Mrs. Fleming.

MCF: What a Life!

It is difficult to remember when the world was smaller—when air travel was a privilege and foreigners a curiosity. Travel was for those with pluck and fortitude, for those with the gumption to see beyond narrow political and social mores. Perhaps the most poignant stories in the delightful book MCF: What a Life! are those of her time before she built the School, when she was exploring Culture, earning Wisdom, learning Knowledge, and discovering her Truth. Mrs. Fleming's writing sheds light on her story, and the story of TASIS. Told in her own words and in the words of those whose lives she touched, MCF: What a Life! explores nine decades of the life that brought us all together. The book is an inspirational keepsake to forever remind us of Mrs. Fleming's spirit and joy.

In Pursuit of Excellence: An Historical Perspective

We all have dreams, but only those with true vision persevere though challenges, learn from mishaps, and look back with humor and dignity.

Growing pains and pinnacles are a part of the lives of people and of organizations, and it is amid life's tests that we show true spirit and strength. In Pursuit of Excellence was created to commemorate 50 years of TASIS Switzerland and 30 years of TASIS England. Written by students, teachers, and Mrs. Fleming herself, this beautiful and fascinating book gives a pictoral and written history of TASIS from those who lived it, in pursuit of excellence.

From Tradition to Tomorrow: Adapting to Change in Challenging Times

A history of TASIS from 2006–2026.

Beauty and Duty

Persons, Accomplishments, and Events in the Making of the TASIS Schools

Big anniversaries often bring contemplation and veneration of accomplishments, setbacks, and legacy. TASIS has recently published a volume of essays celebrating a true TASIS legend, Fernando Gonzalez, on the occasion of his fiftieth year with the TASIS organization.

Beauty and Duty: Persons, Accomplishments, and Events in the Making of the TASIS Schools is a set of essays solicited from long-term or prominent TASIS figures or alumni. Fernando is given pride of place in the volume, with words from 20 contributors about a man who has been one of the most important figures in shaping the TASIS Schools. The second section includes essays and tributes in honor of Lynn Fleming Aeschliman ’63. Section three consists of essays by major TASIS personalities who have given their lives to making Mrs. Fleming’s dreams into reality. Also included is a final eulogy to Horst Dürrschmidt by Mark Aeschliman and a series of essays about three benevolent alumni whose generosity is continuing to shape the TASIS schools: Jan Opsahl ’68, Ferit Şahenk ’83, and Curtis McGraw Webster ’75.

The Good Man Speaking Well: A Tribute to Max Peter Page

This tribute volume recognizes the long, effective contributions to TASIS and TASIS-England of Master-teacher of English Max Peter Page, who died in the spring of 2025. Mr. Page eloquently represented a classical, Christian, and English tradition of emphasizing the moral dimension and effects of reading, studying, and teaching great literature, especially works from the English Renaissance (e.g., Shakespeare) to the twentieth century (e.g., T.S. Eliot). Mr. Page conveyed a legacy of analysis, rhetoric, and exhortation that has classical roots in Horace and Quintilian, English Christian spokesmen such as Sir Philip Sidney and Samuel Johnson, and recent proponents such as F.R. Leavis. His inspirational effect on decades of TASIS students in Switzerland and England was incalculably great and the TASIS Master-Teacher Award is named for him and a long-serving mathematics colleague in both Switzerland and England, Akbar Khan.
