Statement from Director Michele Josue
Returning to TASIS to create “TASIS Through Time,” a documentary celebrating the School’s 70-year history, has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. While every documentary I make becomes deeply personal, this one holds a uniquely special place in my heart because it feels like the culmination of a journey that began when I first arrived on campus at 12 years old.
I spent the formative years of my life here, surrounded by many of the teachers, mentors, and friends featured in this film. It was at TASIS that I discovered my love of theater, storytelling, and the arts—and where I first imagined a life as a filmmaker.
At my senior banquet almost 30 years ago, I shared that one day I hoped to make a film about TASIS. Years later, my first professional filmmaking opportunity came about when Lynn Fleming Aeschliman ’63 approached me during my sister Anna ’00’s graduation and asked if I’d be interested in creating a short documentary about the school. That experience set me on the path to documentary filmmaking, and ultimately to the career that has followed.
This film is dedicated to the TASIS community: to Mrs. Fleming and Lynn Fleming Aeschliman; to beloved educators and mentors like Mr. Eichner; and to the generations of teachers, classmates, and lifelong friends who helped me find my voice and my life’s calling.
“TASIS Through Time” is my love letter to the School and to those who have devoted their lives to inspiring generations of young people to discover their voices, their purposes, and the courage to imagine who they might become.
