Winter Adventure with the Middle School

The first week of January brought our Middle School an exciting week of fun in the snow and togetherness! Located in the charming Alpine village of La Tzoumaz, Winter Adventure included 85 students this year. The weather was mostly sunny and warm, though clouds moved in on Thursday, just in time for us to head back to Lugano on Friday.

Our 7th and 8th Graders arrived on Sunday and were, for the first time, joined by our 6th Graders on Tuesday. Along with playing games and taking tours of the beautiful village, all students from all levels participated in a special ski and snowboard race on Thursday. Before heading to Lugano on Friday, we visited the village of Verbier. While snowsports were the highlight of the week, it often seemed that students felt the afternoon snack of tea, fresh fruit, fresh bread, and Nutella was the most exciting part of each day!

The children had a wonderful time together, and the addition of our 6th Graders truly made this year special. Winter Adventure serves as an excellent community-building activity for students and teachers in the Middle School.

The High School enjoys a week in Crans Montana

Crans-Montana was the location for another wonderful High School Ski Week. The students and faculty arrived on Saturday, January 5 and spent every day enjoying perfect mountain conditions. This year’s biggest problem was not wearing enough sunblock! Blue skies greeted the students and faculty each morning. Ski and snowboard lessons by Crans-Montana pros gave our TASIS community a great opportunity to get to know each other away from campus.

Grade-level events took place throughout the week, and the weather was perfect for tubing and sledding. Evening activities included bowling, movies, and making crêpes, along with wandering the charming village and taking advantage of all Crans-Montana has to offer.

All-school activities included the infamous faculty/student hockey game, a hard-fought match with the faculty edging out a one-goal victory. Highlights included the amazing efforts of Benedetto Santoboni '15 , the fast and skilled skating of senior Cole Miller '13, and the constant scoring threat of faculty members Peter Locke, Todd Matthew, and Charlie Williams.

In the middle of the week everyone had a free day from lessons and came together on the mountain for the TASIS Olympics, organized by our Crans instructors. The three-hour event included physical and mental challenges, which left our students ready for hot chocolate and a rest! The day continued with a Casino Night in the tennis center, with games, prizes, and loads of fun. Ski Week is always a highlight of everyone’s calendar, and this year was no different! Thanks to all who made it such a special week.
